I agree with Mitali. As an Asian American woman, it isn't enough to focus on improving our skills and hoping to be recognized for a promotion. We have to speak up and explicitly tell our managers that we want one and deserve one. And we have to back this up by documenting our accomplishments. I have done this successfully, and know a few other Asian who have had to speak up in the same way. I think all of us would have had to wait way longer if we had stayed quiet.
