I agree there’s some psychological manipulation with the concept of unlimited vacations. I work at a stable, family friendly company with a more-generous-than-average vacation policy. This company also heavily discourages carrying leftover vacation from year to year, so their tactic is to try to get employees to use their vacation once they reach a cap. Same concept of unwanted liability, but with a more humane approach that everyone actually USES their allotted time off.
